چکیده

It is possible to classify pixels of a smoothed cosmic microwave background (CMB) fluctuation map according to their local curvature in “hill”, “lake” and “saddle” regions. In the Gaussian case, fractional areas occupied by pixels of each kind can be computed analytically for families of excursion sets as functions of threshold and moments of the fluctuation power spectrum. We show how the shape of these functions can be used to constrain accurately the level of non-Gaussianity in the data by applying these new statistics to an hypothetical mixed model suggested by Bouchet et al. (2001). According to our simple test, with only one 12.5× 12.5 deg map, Planck should be able to detect with a high significance a non-Gaussian level as weak as 10% in temperature standard deviation (rms) (5% in Cl), whereas a marginal detection would be possible for MAP with a non-Gaussian level around 30% in temperature (15% in Cl).

New approaches to probing Minkowski functionals

We generalize the concept of the ordinary skew-spectrum to probe the effect of non-Gaussianity on the morphology of cosmic microwave background (CMB) maps in several domains: in real space (where they are commonly known as cumulant-correlators), and in harmonic and needlet bases. The essential aim is to retain more information than normally contained in these statistics, in order to assist in d...

Primordial non-Gaussianity: local curvature method and statistical significance of constraints on fNL from WMAP data

We test the consistency of estimates of the non-linear coupling constant fNL using nonGaussian CMB maps generated by the method described in (Liguori, Matarrese and Moscardini 2003). This procedure to obtain non-Gaussian maps differs significantly from the method used in previous works on estimation of fNL. Nevertheless, using spherical wavelets, we find results in very good agreement with (Muk...

Galaxy-CMB and Galaxy-Galaxy Lensing on Large Scales: Sensitivity to Primordial Non-Gaussianity

A convincing detection of primordial non-Gaussianity in the local form of the bispectrum, whose amplitude is given by the ƒNL parameter, offers a powerful test of inflation. In this paper, we calculate the modification of two-point cross-correlation statistics of weak lensing—galaxy-galaxy lensing and galaxycosmic microwave background (CMB) crosscorrelation—due to ƒNL. We derive and calculate t...

Geometrical estimators as a test of Gaussianity in the CMB

We investigate the power of geometrical estimators on detecting non-Gaussianity in the cosmic microwave background. In particular the number, eccentricity and Gaussian curvature of excursion sets above (and below) a threshold are studied. We compare their different performance when applied to non-Gaussian simulated maps of small patches of the sky, which take into account the angular resolution...

Large non-Gaussianity generated after D-term Inflation by Right-Handed Sneutrino Curvaton

In this paper, we consider large non-Gaussianity generated after D-term inflation in the case that the adiabatic curvature perturbation produced is dominated by a right-handed (RH) sneutrino curvaton. The cosmic string problem can also be evaded with around 10% contribution to the CMB power spectrum and the spectral index ns ≃ 1. The non-Gaussianity produced can be as large as 10 < fNL < 100 fo...
